Avatar Link Technology

In the movie Avatar, humans develop a technology that allows them to control a synthetic, genetically engineered hybrid creature (known as an avatar) that looks like a Na’vi and shares their agility, size (9–10 feet tall), and ability to breathe on Pandora. Though originally used for resource plundering on Earth, the avatar system is eventually used to broker peace between the humans and the indigenous Na’vi. In the back portion of the film, RDA’s Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) reveals that Jake Sully’s human body is actually his avatar. As a result, his consciousness is permanently transferred into the avatar.

The link between the operator and his or her avatar is a psionic connection that gives real-time access to the avatar’s Avatarslot88 motor and sensory functions. The operator must clear his or her mind before using the link, and then enters a transit state of consciousness while the link is established. Once the link is active, the operator 'wakes up' inside the avatar’s body and can move it as if it were their own. Continuous link times vary by operator; a new operator may tire and disconnect after only minutes, while an experienced operator can maintain a link for hours or even days.

In 2170, the Avatar program was restarted by a group led by Jaclyn Ogden. Their work resulted in a more advanced version of the link technology that allowed multiple people to share one avatar. This version of the program is the focus of the upcoming Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar: Reckoning.
